24th August

Quainton Rally
Quainton Railway Centre
Station Road
Quainton
Aylesbury
Bucks
HP22 4BY

*** News on access to the Quainton Railway Centre for our rally. The Centre has advised that there will be a road closure due to HS2 works. This will prevent us from getting to the site through Quainton village. This means we need to access from the A41 just west of Waddesdon. There are traffic lights there – so turn up Station Road from the A41, come along, over the railway bridge and turn right into the site. I think most people coming from the north and west will have used this route before, so it probably affects just those of us coming from Aylesbury, i.e. the south and east. ***

This long-established and popular event is held every year virtually since the group formed in 1977. The Railway Centre can be found six miles north of Aylesbury, just north of the A41 and signed just west of Waddesdon, or can be accessed through Quainton village. NB - the HS2 works may still be causing disruption and re-routing so please follow any temporary signage. If there is any further useful information I shall post on the Guild website or Facebook page nearer the date. Start time is 10:30am. All Rover models are welcome and we also embrace non-Rovers.

There is a lot to see and experience, with steam train rides both full size and miniature. The re-erected station beside the car park has static locos and rolling stock at the platforms, including Winston Churchill's World War 2 travelling office suite and one of Queen Victoria's dining cars. There is an excellent café and outside picnic area. Across the tracks via the footbridge there is an extensive museum where all aspects of railway life across the decades can be seen. At time of writing no prior booking is necessary although this may change in line with site requirements. I am pleased to report we have negotiated an unchanged entry charge for 2025 of £6.00 per person, a discount of more than 50 percent. Please note that any Covid -19 or other restrictions that may be imposed must be observed and safety notices obeyed.

Norfolk & Norwich Rover Owners Club's Golden Anniversary Rally
Bressingham Steam Museum And Gardens
On the A1066 near Diss IP22 2AA

This year’s annual Bressingham ‘All Rover’ rally will be a very special event celebrating the club's 50th anniversary with the theme of ‘Rover Through the Years’. There will be one or two special displays, so is well worth a visit. For those who have not been before, in addition to around 100 classic cars there are the very attractive gardens, the museum and rides on the three narrow gauge steam railways, plus an original set of Steam Gallopers to enjoy.

There is a restaurant on site serving refreshments & light lunches and alongside the rally field is a well-stocked garden centre, which is always worth a visit during the day. Entry forms are available on www.norfolkandnorwichroveroc.co.uk or call Terry Reynolds on 01603 405280. If you have a car from the very early days or a Rover motorcycle or bicycle, we would be very pleased if you could bring that along to help support our theme.

London Westway Group End Of Season Meet-Up
RAF Museum London, Grahame Park Way NW9 5LL

By popular demand we shall be returning to the RAF Hendon Museum for a final event in 2025. For those members who have not attended before, the Museum boasts many historic aircraft, interactive experiences and an aviation themed outdoor playground, which all contributes for a fun, great value family day out. The museum comprises six hangars containing aircraft, a coffee shop [Sunderland Café] and a large restaurant [Hendon Kitchen], so there is plenty to see and do. The car park is generous too and enables us to park up ‘display style’ which is always great to see. Last year we had around 14 cars on display so we are hoping for another strong turnout this year. Please note the museum is within the expanded ULEZ zone.

Entry to the museum is FREE but you do need to pay for parking inside on the machines as you leave (ANPR system in operation). There are a number of “experiences” which can be booked in advance. More details of these can be found on the museum website https://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/london/ Parking costs £7.50 up to 3 hours and £10.00 for 3-6 hours. Please Note: Blue Badge Holders must also pay to park. Alan and I normally wait outside with the cars to greet and chat until 11.30am or until we freeze/get wet before heading to the café and then the exhibits. Any queries can be made by calling Karen Field (see group listings on page 31 of Overdrive for contact) or RAF questions direct to Hendon via their website. The Museum is open until 5.00pm. If you would like to park up with fellow Guild members, please aim to arrive from 9.45am when we should have the car park largely to ourselves.
