25th August  Quainton All Rover Rally

Quainton Railway Centre
Station Road
HP22 4BY

This event is one of the oldest-established rallies in our history, held every year virtually since the group formed in 1977. Our archivist Colin Blowers, who spent many years as a railway employee and is a qualified train driver, is a long-term member and used his links to inaugurate the meeting. The Railway Centre can be found six miles north of Aylesbury, just north of the A41 and signed just west of Waddesdon, or can be accessed through Quainton village. NB - the HS2 works may still be causing disruption and re-routing so please follow any temporary signage. If there is any further useful information I shall post on the Guild website or Facebook page nearer the date.

Start time is 10:30am. All Rover models are welcome and we also embrace non-Rovers. There is a lot to see and experience, with steam train rides both full size and miniature. The re-erected station beside the car park has static locos and rolling stock at the platforms, including Winston Churchill's World War 2 travelling office suite and one of Queen Victoria's dining cars. There is an excellent cafe and outside picnic area. Across the tracks via the footbridge there is an extensive museum where all aspects of railway life across the decades can be seen.

No prior booking is necessary and the cost has remained at £6.00 per person for the last three years, a 52% discount. Please note that any Covid -19 or other restrictions that may be imposed must be observed and safety notices obeyed.

The Lakes Rally

The Lakes Rally for 2024 has confirmed venues and timings. The Rally will take place on Friday the 6th, Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th of September. The format will be as per previous years, with a few little changes for this year.

Friday the 6th of September 2024 (New this year)
13.00 Meet at the Bower House Inn Eskdale, then go off in convoy to climb the Hardknott Pass. Hardknott Pass is a mountain pass at an elevation of 400m (1,312ft) above the sea level, located in the Duddon Valley of Cumbria, in England. It’s said to be the steepest road in England with a gradient of 1 in 3 (about 33%). This road is extremely steep in places and narrow with parking places. It should only be undertaken in cars that the owners are confident that brakes, suspension and general car condition is in good order. Members who wish to partake in this activity must contact Alex Heaton first as he needs to know numbers. Contact details are below.

Saturday the 7th of September 2024
10.00 Meet in the carpark of The Haverthwaite Railway Centre. Options are to travel on the train to Lakeside, then on the ferry round the Lake. Whilst some people like to stop on the car park and talk about Rovers etc. There is an added option for a Road run around Windemere lasting approximately 2.5 hours, starting at 11.00, finishing at the Lakeland Motor Museum.
13.00 Leave Railway carpark and drive to Lakeland Motor Museum in Convoy. This Museum has a good carpark, great exhibits, and a good café.

Sunday the 8th of September 2024
10.00 A Static Rally of Rovers at Levens Hall. Cars on display will be mainly Rovers, but others do turn up. Whilst at the Venue exhibitors will have the opportunity to visit the Hall, Gardens, and sample food in the very good restaurant.
Please note Dogs are not allowed in the gardens and the Hall, which I believe includes the car show area.
16.00 Rally end and look forward to next year.

For SatNav use NW9 5QW

A final meet up before the winter arrives. The normal parking charge of up to £10 for 3 to 6 hours still applies, but this also provides free museum admission. There is a cafe inside. This has been enormously popular in the past so it would be lovely to see you and end the year in style. Warm togs often needed to chat in the car park but we normally head in around 11.30 a.m. It is inside the ULEZ but that does not normally affect Historic cars. Meet from 10.30 a.m. to 4.00p.m at the museum. Any queries, call Karen Field on 07773030022 or contact via email – This email address is being protected from spambots.
